St. Patrick’s Night Ceili Review

Saturday 27th April saw 90 people enjoy the Sniffers first St. Patrick’s Night Ceili in the Village Hall. A little late, but difficult to get a good Ceili Band unless you plan 2 years ahead! The evening started with a display of Irish Dancing by 20 plus dancers from the Celtica Academy Coventry. They started off quietly enough but when they changed their shoes, we had a display to rival Riverdance. That was followed by a great evening of Ceili dancing (maybe not as elegant) but great fun! We were led by the caller from Hilltop Celiidh (Scottish spelling) Band. Hannah lived up to the challenge of explaining all the moves, sadly we did not quite live up to the task of remembering them in quite the right order. But all that just added to the Craic. When we visibly tired, the band broke into some Rebel Songs. We feasted on Guinness sausages (kindly donated by Aubrey Allen) and Colcannon, followed by Baileys Ice Cream. The Guinness ran out before the end of the evening! The prize for the Quiz with an Irish section (you had to guess the questions from the answers) was 12 miniatures for the winning table. A big Thank You to everyone who helped make the evening a great success, raising well over £2000 for Zoe’s Place in Coventry, providing respite and end of life care for children aged 0 to 5 years old. Zoes-place.org.uk.
Our next event is a 60’s to 90’s Dance on Saturday 9 November with 100 tickets available. We hope that will open up the Dance to more people in the village. Tickets for the Ceili were gone in seconds!
